The essence of this project can be described as a mixture of strict conciseness, spaciousness and air. This apartment is designed as a rental in the City for young professionals.

This compact apartment sits in a mid-century building was designed as a rental investment property aimed at one or two city professionals. The brief from the owner was clear: create a calm, minimal interior that photographs beautifully, feels generous despite its size, and works for a changing stream of tenants without ever looking dated.

Maya approached the project as a piece of investment property interior design: the space needed to stand out in listings, be robust in daily use, and be neutral enough for different tenants to make it their own.

The existing layout was simplified into a clear, open-plan sequence. The living area faces the dining table and kitchen, so the main room can work equally well for relaxed evenings, hosting friends or working from home. Circulation is intuitive and free of visual clutter, helping the apartment feel larger than it is.

Because this is a long-term investment property for city professionals, storage was planned to absorb day-to-day belongings behind closed doors. Surfaces remain clear, and the apartment can quickly be styled for photography or viewings.

Maya worked with a deliberately limited selection of materials to make the apartment feel holistic and voluminous. Walls and joinery are kept light and calm; a single, restrained palette runs throughout. Charcoal-black herringbone tiles lead from the entrance hall into the guest bathroom, grounding the circulation and giving the monochrome scheme depth. In contrast, warm herringbone oak parquet flows through all main spaces without thresholds or transitions, visually enlarging the apartment and adding tactility underfoot.

This project was featured in Leibal magazine.

This project sits alongside Maya’s wider work for developers and investors in London and across Europe. The aim is always the same: properties that rent or sell more easily, hold their value, and offer a genuinely pleasant place to live for the people who use them.
